The Red Poppy

The plant was one of the first to grow and bloom in the mud and soil of Flanders The connection was made, most famously by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae in his poem In Flanders fields.

The poppy is a symbol that people were around Anzac day it is for the remembrance of the soldiers that died at war.

It's only recently the red poppy has been worn on Anzac day in large numbers It's used to be exclusively for armistice day November 11 a spring of rosemary for remembrance has been the norm up until the last few years.
